NFC Tag Use Cases
What can an NFC tag
actually do?
Short answer: whatever a phone tap can trigger — open a link, call a number, send a text, or run a phone automation (Apple Shortcuts / Home Assistant). Below is every quick-start preset and every symbol in the NFC Tag Designer, grouped by where people actually stick them, each with real use cases and a link that opens the design already picked for you.

FAQ
How many NFC tag designs can I choose from?
The NFC Tag Designer has 28 ready-made quick-start presets — covering home automation, café and business tags, keys and travel, and gifts — plus every other symbol in the icon set, so there's a starting point for almost any use case. Every one of them is on this page with two or three concrete use cases and a link that opens it already selected in the studio.
What's the difference between a quick start and a plain symbol?
A quick start (like Sleep mode or Café menu) comes with a shape and an NFC action already picked for that use case. A plain symbol is just the icon — pick your own shape, colour and tap action (link, call, text or automation) around it in the studio.
What can a tap actually do?
Four things: open a web link, call a number, send a text (SMS), or fire a blank automation trigger that your phone runs locally (Apple Shortcuts or Home Assistant) — useful for scenes like sleep mode or lights, with no data connection needed on the tag itself.
Can I change what a tag does after I've ordered it?
Yes. We program the chip before shipping, but it's a rewritable NTAG213 — change the link, number or automation any time with a free NFC-writing app such as NFC Tools.
Do you have a dedicated pet or dog ID tag?
Yes — pet and dog ID tags moved to the dedicated Pet ID Studio, which is built specifically for collar tags. Everything else — home, café, keys, gifts and the rest of the symbol set — is designed in the NFC Tag Designer and covered on this page.
Ready to design one?
Pick any card above and it opens the NFC Tag Designer with that shape, symbol and tap action already selected — tweak the name, colour and size from there.
