Which train tracks work with BRIO? IKEA, Hape, Duplo and more

BRIO-compatible track is any wooden railway track made to the same peg-and-socket connector and wheel-groove gauge as BRIO. Formada3D designs 3D printed pieces to that wooden-railway standard in Melbourne, and each listing states which sets it connects to: BRIO, IKEA LILLABO, Bigjigs, Melissa & Doug and most wooden train brands (the flexible track also names Kmart/ALDI). Two of the pieces also carry a LEGO DUPLO clutch underneath, which is how wooden track gets mounted onto DUPLO bricks. Brands our listings do not name — Hape, Thomas & Friends wooden track, John Lewis or any other brand not named in our listings — we have not tested and do not claim. Prices below are read from the live catalogue, from A$14.99; shipping is AU $10 (express $15) · FREE AU over $100 · NZ $15 · US $20 · Intl $25.

What track is compatible with BRIO?

Track that shares BRIO's wooden-railway connector: a round peg on one end, a keyhole socket on the other, and two wheel grooves at the standard gauge. Our pieces are designed to that standard — the crossing listing calls it "the verified wooden-railway standard — correct wheel-groove gauge and keyhole sockets". Here is exactly what each listing states it connects to; nothing on this page goes beyond the listing.

Do BRIO and Hape tracks fit together?

We do not know, because we have not tested Hape. None of our four listings name Hape, so this page does not claim that Hape joins BRIO, IKEA LILLABO or our pieces — even though other sites say so. The brands our pieces are stated to connect to are BRIO, IKEA LILLABO, Bigjigs and Melissa & Doug (plus Kmart/ALDI for the flexible track). If your set is Hape or another brand not named here and you want to try one piece, the listings carry 30-day change-of-mind returns, and a message with a photo of your connector helps us answer before you buy.

Do LEGO trains fit on DUPLO track?

That is a question about LEGO's own products and we have not tested it, so we leave it to LEGO. What people usually want when they ask it is to get a wooden train through a DUPLO build, and that is what two of our pieces do:

Neither piece makes a DUPLO or LEGO train run on wooden track — the lane on top is for wooden-railway trains.

What the pieces are made of

Light layer lines are normal on a 3D printed part. Age recommendation 3+ years, under adult supervision; contains small parts, not suitable for children under 3.

Frequently asked questions

What track is compatible with BRIO?

Wooden railway track built to the same peg-and-socket connector and wheel-groove gauge as BRIO. Our four pieces are designed to that wooden-railway standard, and each listing states it connects to BRIO, IKEA LILLABO, Bigjigs, Melissa & Doug and most wooden train brands (the flexible track also names Kmart/ALDI). Brands not named in the listings have not been tested by us.

Do BRIO and Hape tracks fit together?

We have not tested Hape track with BRIO or with our own pieces, and none of our listings name Hape, so we do not claim it fits. What we can say is which sets our pieces are stated to connect to: BRIO, IKEA LILLABO, Bigjigs and Melissa & Doug. If you have Hape and want to try a piece, every listing carries 30-day change-of-mind returns.

Do LEGO trains fit on DUPLO track?

That is a LEGO question we cannot answer from our own testing, and our pieces are not DUPLO train track. What our adapter and baseplate tile do is different: they put a wooden-railway lane (for BRIO- and IKEA-style wooden trains) on top of a DUPLO clutch, so wooden track can be mounted on DUPLO bricks and baseplates for bridges, raised loops and towns. A DUPLO or LEGO train does not run on the wooden lane.

How do I connect BRIO or IKEA track to LEGO DUPLO?

With the Wooden Train Track to DUPLO Adapter (A$14.99) or the Train Track DUPLO Baseplate Tile (A$29.99). Both have wooden-railway connectors and wheel grooves on top and a DUPLO clutch underneath that snaps onto any DUPLO brick or baseplate. The adapter is a short block for bridging and end-of-run mounting; the 128 × 128 mm tile runs a full track lane across an 8 × 8 stud plate with DUPLO studs on either side.

Does IKEA LILLABO track connect to BRIO?

Our listings state that each piece connects to both BRIO and IKEA LILLABO — the same wooden-railway peg, keyhole socket and wheel-groove gauge — which is how one piece joins a layout that mixes the two. We make no claim about joining the two brands directly to each other beyond what our own connectors do.

Is the 3D printed track safe for young children?

The listings state the pieces are printed in Bambu Lab PLA Pure (every ingredient EU food-contact certified, UL GREENGUARD 2904, EN 71 tested filament). Age recommendation is 3+ years under adult supervision; the pieces contain small parts and are not suitable for children under 3.

How much is shipping within Australia and how long does it take?

Standard shipping is A$10 (express A$15) and standard shipping is free on orders over A$100. Every piece is printed to order in Melbourne in 3–5 business days and sent by tracked Australia Post to every state and territory.

Can I get a custom length, size or colour?

Yes. The listings say the flexible track comes in custom lengths, the baseplate tile is parametric (other sizes on request) and every piece prints in the colours in the dropdown, with custom colours by message. Use the quote form and say what your layout needs.
