How to assemble the Custom Hobby Workstation

How to assemble the Custom Hobby Workstation: an interactive 3D guide in 9 steps. Turn, zoom and explode the model, then build it step by step. Printed to order in Melbourne.

  1. Step 1 · Drawers. Slide a drawer into each of the three sections. The wide drawer goes into the LADDER section (the one with two small studs on top), the two narrow drawers into the BINS and STATION sections. No glue and no screws anywhere in this set.
  2. Step 2 · Join the sections. Stand the sections in a row: BINS on the left, LADDER in the middle, STATION on the right. Push a diamond joint pin into the hole at the front of each joint, then slide the next section onto it so the fronts line up. 2 pins in total.
  3. Step 3 · Bowtie keys. Drop a bowtie joint key into each joint from the top, at the back. It locks the two sections together. The three sections are now one solid run, about 63 cm wide.
  4. Step 4 · Lower frames. Push each lower back frame's 4 square pegs down into the sockets along the back of its section. The two narrow frames go on BINS and STATION, the wide one on LADDER.
  5. Step 5 · Upper frames + top shelf. Set each upper frame (the part with the shelf) onto its lower frame. Push 2 bowtie frame keys into the back of each leg across the joint, 12 in total. The three shelf pieces line up into one full-width top shelf.
  6. Step 6 · Bin module + Rotary Tool Station. Drop the stepped bin module into the pocket on the left section and the Rotary Tool Station into the pocket on the right. Each pocket has a 3 mm lip, so they stay put.
  7. Step 7 · Gallery Ladder. Build the Gallery Ladder first: shelves into the rails, wedges in, slide the ladder into the plinth from the back, snap pins (it has its own 3D guide). Then lower the plinth into the middle pocket so the two studs go into the sockets underneath. Shown with 4 Citadel shelves; yours has the shelf setup you picked.
  8. Step 8 · Pliers rails. Hang each pliers rail on the front lip of the top shelf: the groove along its top drops over the lip and the plate rests against the frame. The 4-peg rail goes on the bins side, the 2-peg rail on the station side. Lift it 4 mm to take it off.
  9. Step 9 · Done. Your workstation is together: about 63 cm wide, 24 cm deep and 44 cm tall to the top shelf. Load your paints on the Gallery Ladder, tools and bits in the station, and bottles and odds and ends in the bins. Paints, brushes and tools are not included.
